What Should You Do If You Get Hair Colour Shock?

Most people who have had a dramatic hairstyle change, a bold balayage or a vivid dye job have had a moment where they have been shocked by the results in the mirror.

Whether you are a regular or this is your first trip to an organic hair salon, hair colour shock can happen, and whilst it often very quickly fades into delight and elation, sometimes it can be a little distressing.

It is easy to see why; whether it is a DIY dye job or a professional colouring treatment, the immediate results when you first look in a mirror can come as a surprise, especially if the colour as it appears on your head does not resemble the image you had of it in your mind.

The first step if you get that feeling is to take a second look. The initial reaction is the strongest but not always the most accurate. It might be the case that the colour now being real makes it different from how you imagined it.

Often people will gasp when they see their new look but then love it after a good look at it.

However, if this is not the case and you do not like the colour, do speak up about it. Your stylist wants you to love your new look, and if there are particular aspects you are not fond of, they can either help fix it there and then, or explain how it might change when you get home.

Whilst many salons try to have lighting to mitigate this, sometimes the lights can be quite harsh by necessity, and hair dye is at its most vivid just after it has been applied. Both of these aspects in combination can give a very different impression of your new colour.

If you go back home and still do not like it after a few days, book a colour correction appointment. There is always something a stylist can do to give you the look you want, and often it only requires a little tweak to fix.
